A major breakthrough came in 2013 when divrse SL-CoVs were discovered in the single colony of Rhinolophus siniscus, in Yunnan province. In this colony, there were at least 7 different strains related to SARS-CoV, HKU3, Rs672 or Rfl, based on analysis of the region corresponding to SARS-CoV receptor-binding domain. Intriguingly, unlike all previously described SL-CoVs, two strains, designated Rs3367 and Rs SHC014, did not contain the deletions in this region.
