Mesenchymal stem cells are adult, fibroblast-like, multipotent cells, most frequently isolated from bone marrow, adipose tissue and umbilical cord blood. The International Society for Cellular Therapy formulated minimal criteria for uniform characterization  of mesenchimal stem cells such as plastic adherence, potential for differentiation in osteogenic, chondrogenic, and adipogenic liniage, cell surface expression of CD105, CD73, CD90 and  the absence of hematopoietic markers CD45, CD34, CD14 or CD11b, CD79α or CD19 and HLA-DR
