As for human embryonic stem cells is the main safety issue regarding induced pluripotent stem cells-based therapy is the risk of teratoma formation which can happened if patient receive induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cells that contain undifferentiated induced pluripotent stem cells. Uncontrolled proliferation and differentiation of transplanted undifferentiated induced pluripotent stem cells may result in generation of tumors and/or undesired differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells in broad range of somatic cells. Thus, development of more effective methods for generation of purified populations of autologous induced pluripotent stem cell-derived differentiated cells remains a challenge for personalized and regenerative medicine.
