The metric is not the (whole) message

Ideally, a standard amount of antigen would be present on the bead of interest and would be bound proportionally to antibody amount, yielding a reliable and quantitative mean fluorescence intensity result. Unfortunately, several of the assay properties result in mean fluorescence intensity being, a semiquantitative output.
