Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) part 65

hla protein 1

The absence of a strong or clear association between HLA and  Plasmodium falciparum may, infact, result from a unique  biology wich renders HLA less relevant. The parasite spends most of its biomass not as freely circulating sporozoites and merozoites, but as intra-erythrocytic ring forms, thropozoites and schizonts. Despite their intracellular development, remarkable immune evasion is achieved. The erythrocyte is arguably appealing not only for its nutritive iron and protein content, but also for its lacm of continued HLA expression after enucleation, thereby unable to process and present immunologic signature units for adaptive immune recognition.
