Kidneys are the unsung heroes of the body

The kidneys play a number of important roles in the body such as:

  • Extracting excess fluid to make urine
  • Controlling blood pressure
  • Filtering waste products’from the blood
  • Controlling body fluids
  • Stimulating the production of red blood cells
  • Controlling potassium, calcium and phosporus levels
  • Regulating vitamin D

    I was born with one kidney that acted up a few years ago. Now I see a nephrologist who has encouraged me and helped me to see how important it is to keep my kidney healthy. I can’t eat whole grains because they affect my kidney. Who knew?!?
